Shoes have always been an important component of a woman’s attire. No outfit looks attractive enough with out the appropriate pair of shoes. Out of all the different types of shoes “Platforms Shoes” are probably the most popular. What are Platform Shoes? Platforms feature a higher and broader sole that has more elevation compared to the regular high heel shoes. The conventional high heel shoes have thin soles that pose often times a hazard for the ladies wearing them. When walking fast narrow soles typically tend to split or twist the ankle. These issues have been dealt with, with the development of platform shoes. History Of Platforms Shoes Platforms shoes were popular in Greece and in Venice. The Greeks worn the extender for elevating height to give prominence to characters of the Greek theatre. High society prostitutes and courtesans of sixteenth century Venice also used them. People are known to have used platforms shoes in eighteenth century Europe to avoid the dirt and mud of the streets. Similarity has also been found to the Roman ‘buskin’, the Japanese ‘geta’ and also Støvler from China having the same thick soles. The objective of all these variants of the platform shoe was to give added stature to the wearer. The Chinese still wear it as part of their traditional costume for the Peking Opera. |
